Ten Thoughts on Racism

I disdain racism, because I am a former racist. I was recruited by the Klan at the age of 24, but never joined, nor did I ever go to a meeting. I didn’t join it because I am not into these “fraternal” groups or causes – I had friends and I had hunting season, I didn’t need a cause. It never was because it was wrong. Racism held a strong place in my heart and well as it did many whom I went to church with. It was a community value. It was considered a highly valued character trait where I am from. No I didn’t get reformed or religion or have some kind of therapy to get over this racist hate. Jesus changed my life, I got saved, born-again. When Jesus changed my life, instantly the hate left, instantly the love of God filled my life. Hate cannot exist where the love of God resides.

 Ten Thoughts on Racism

 1.  Saved people don’t hate.

The Bible teaches clearly that if you have hate in your heart – you are not saved (1 John 2:9-11, 3:15, 4:20). No exceptions.

 2. Saved people love others no matter their skin color.

The Bible says that when a person is born-again the love of God is poured out into his/her heart through the Holy Spirit.  (Romans 5:5)  No exceptions.

 3. God’s church is for everyone.

Your organization that you call a “church” may not be for everyone, but God’s church is open to whosoever will!  Over and over again the Bible declares the church is for everyone. I hear some saying, well yes, they have their church, we have our church. Years ago, one search committee called me and asked me about being their pastor. I asked if they were a racist church and if they had a problem with blacks coming to church. The head-knocker I was speaking to said, “no we are not racists, that’s why we sold our old church facility to the blacks down the road. They have their church and we have ours.”  I think he loved green more than black. I told them to have a nice day and they didn’t need to talk to me about being their pastor. The New Testament church was full of different races (Acts 13:1-2, Colossians 3:11, Galatians 3:28)

 4. Don’t let racists ruin your church by running it.

There is a place for racists in churches, it is at the altar, weeping and repenting over the evil of hatred in their hearts and the wickedness in their souls. They will only attract other racists and put those in leadership.  Racists are like drunks. Only drunks enjoy being around other drunks. No sober person likes being around a drunk. Only racists like being around other racists.

5.  Remember God’s people have been punished severely for racism. (see Numbers 12).

It may be disease, death, or suffering. It may simply be God letting you have your own way and having “church” without Him. God is not mocked. Racism is mocking God.

 6.  Every person is made in the image of God.

Worth is not based upon appearance, performance, or position in life. Inherent worth is based upon God declaring that something has worth. He made humanity in His image and His likeness, regardless of color, position, power, education, or performance.   God’s Word says this “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 (ESV)  God loves you so much that He sacrificed the life of His only Son, Jesus Christ, so you that you can have forgiveness and eternal life. You are of great value because God gave His son for you. So is everyone else on the planet.

 7.  Every person is related to each other through one man, Adam.

No matter how diametrically different two people are, they have the same blood of Adam coursing through their veins.  Acts 17:26 (ESV) “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,”

 8.  Racism is arrogance.

Some racists will say they don’t hate, but just think they are better than others.  This pride-filled mindset is evil, godless, and goes against all that God stands for. It really isn’t godless because the god this person is worshipping is the one they look at in the mirror each morning. They think they and their ideas are the best solution for the whole world.

 9. Evolutionary Theory is a cause of modern racism.

It is one of the causes, not all of the causes. Charles Darwin’s most famous work commonly called “Origin of the Species” is short for the full title  “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.”  In his work he actually describes his belief that some races are more evolved than others. This is the seedbed of Hitler’s thoughts that drove him in his goal of the firey extermination of the Jewish people. I am really amazed in our “politically correct” culture that Darwin is such a hero.  He was an avid advocate of racism and is held as a great example to follow in “modern science.” Clearly our culture and modern science has lost its way.

 10.  Jesus is the only One who can change the racist’s heart.

He is the one true and living God and only Lord. The hate-filled racist can change, but only by the power of God. You can be forgiven of your sin and have your life changed forever, only if you repent of your sin and put your faith in His sacrificial death for you. Call out to Him today and let Him change your life.

If I cannot witness to whosoever, invite whosoever to be part of the church family, and know that they will be accepted then I do NOT want to have any part of this so called “church.”
